I have done two weddings with the camera and the only thing I like is the light weight. None of the functions like nightshot, white balance, and backlight can be used to get a professional effect and the camera is best just left on auto. It is not good in low light conditions as the picture becomes greyish. Futher the controls are flimsey to say the least and you get the feel of a cheap chinese car when using it. Then you cannot use any tapes you find in the shops as they cause picture abd audio dropout ending a shoot in disaster. Only the profesional digimaster tapes seem to work Still pictues are terrible unless you are really close up. Not what you would expect from a HD camera.
Problems:
Picture and audio dropout, nightshot, backlight and white balance a not usable by normal operator. Bad still picture quality further than a few meters away

Have used my fair share of cameras over the years and for price these
were incredible in their quality and sturdiness.....heavier than they
claim though so beware anyone buying them for use on Glidecam or
Steadicam Jnr's etc.

This camera is perfect to amaturs and professoinal companies that wants a
camera that is a one camera production camera.. this camera is entry
level so it don`t have the professional quality but it can be just what
you need. this is a camera that is not expensive so you can "play" a
litte more whit it! THIS IS A GOOD CAMERA BUT IT HAVE SOME DOWN SIDES(not
many).

Problems:
WITE BALANCE IS NOT 100% MORE LIKE 90% AND IT HAVE NO COLOR MANAGMANT...
YOU CANT ADJUST BLACK BALANCE, CROMA. LIGHT AND FUCUS IS HARD TO ADJUST.

If you come from Z1 or others prosumer's like camcorders, the landing
will be hard ! But the HVR-HD1000 HDV well-do exactly what she promise...
And for the price what we could expected more ??

I do a lot of event recording and the camera is as created. Positive:
Light but by the camera like a shoulder camera. Therefore, very stable
images. Good low light properties. And if the camera once at a live event
to be destroyed, this is not so bad (little price).
